Joy Lober Anderson
Singer/Actor/Vocal Coach
Executive Director of
The Broadway Mentors Program
Bio
Having sung for four U.S. Presidents, toured with jazz legend Buddy DeFranco and country artist Hoyt Axton (A&M Records), and performed with icons including Red Skelton and Dom DeLuise, Joy Lober Anderson has built a diverse and accomplished career in entertainment. She also recorded a duet with Michael Jackson on Motown’s “One Day in Your Life,” and performed as Eva Perón in the National Tour of Evita for 2½ years (alternate), under the direction of Harold Prince and in collaboration with Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Her work extends into film and television, with songs featured in HBO films, PBS specials, and source music placements in feature films starring Tom Hanks and Jessica Lange. A multifaceted performer and creator, Joy continues to share her experience with the next generation of artists, working alongside Tony Award winners and leading Broadway professionals.
⸻
Joy Lober Anderson is the founder and executive director of The Broadway Mentors Program and comes from a third-generation show business family. Her father was a vaudeville performer who worked with Al Jolson and Eddie Cantor, and her grandmother, Edith, was a silent film pianist who later became a vocal coach. From an early age, Joy was immersed in music and performance training under her grandmother’s guidance.
At age 11, she began performing at a prominent Philadelphia community theater, balancing rehearsals after school and weekend performances in lead roles. This early experience instilled discipline, professionalism, and a deep respect for live performance.
At 20, Joy became the featured vocalist with The Glenn Miller Orchestra under Buddy DeFranco, touring the United States, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and England. She later joined The New Christy Minstrels and, at 21, made her Actors’ Equity debut in Company, starring George Maharis and Vivian Blaine, directed by Jerry Adler and choreographed by Dan Siretta.
After relocating to Los Angeles in the mid-1970s, Joy received a full scholarship to the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera and continued her training with respected acting coaches Jeff Corey and Gail Kobe.
She has shared stages and events with notable figures including Phyllis Diller, Joey Heatherton, Irving Berlin, Sammy Davis Jr., and Bob Hope, including a White House performance.
⸻
Throughout her career, Joy has witnessed the evolution of the performing arts industry and the growing importance of access to quality mentorship. In response, she founded The Broadway Mentors Program to provide students with authentic, experience-based guidance from working and award-winning professionals.
The program is designed to connect aspiring performers with seasoned Broadway artists who offer practical training in auditioning, performance, and career development. Classes are small and highly interactive, emphasizing hands-on learning in a workshop-style environment.
Joy also teaches acting, vocal performance, and career counseling in New York City. Additional instruction covers the business side of the industry, including union membership, headshots, agents, and professional development.
Because of limited class sizes, enrollment is offered on a first-come, first-served basis, with a waiting list for full sessions.

The Broadway Mentors Program welcomes students into a supportive community dedicated to nurturing talent, discipline, and artistry, with the goal of preparing performers for successful careers in New York, Los Angeles, and beyond.

"I am passionate about the craft of acting, especially with children. Broadway Mentors is about learning and growing in a way that actually prepares actors to be READY when their opportunities come along. To make a connection with a professional is not enough. I've seen way too many actors, the kids in particular - with no true technique or business knowledge - squander an opportunity, because the 1st impression is everything - and while they've found a way to get into "the room where it happens", once they're in there, their raw talent isn't enough. Joy Lober Anderson and The Broadway Mentors Program will make sure they're ready."

“I have been in the business, mostly as an actress but also as a film and television director. I was nominated three times for an Emmy award, received one, have studied with Lee Strasberg as well as a few others and I must say Joy Lober is a sensational teacher. Experience is the best teacher and the hours Joy has logged as a professional on stage is massive. You can trust her with your talent, your time, and your heart.”

Parents and Students Testimonials
"For the past five years, Joy Lober Anderson has been an incredible voice teacher and true
mentor to my daughter.
From the very beginning, Joy created a safe, supportive and encouraging environment. She has
helped her grow not only as a vocalist, but also as a confident and expressive individual. Joy's
ability to connect through patience, kindness, and unwavering belief in her is truly special.
Over the years, I have seen tremendous growth in my daughter’s vocal technique, performance
skills, and overall love for music. Joy has a unique gift for bringing out the best in her students,
tailoring each lesson to meet their needs, whether it's preparing for a musical, master class or
solo/ensemble piece.
What stands out most is her genuine care and commitment. Joy goes above and beyond to
support her students, always offering patience, encouragement, and expert guidance.
I am so grateful for the lasting impact Joy has had on my daughter’s life. Any student would be
fortunate to learn from such a talented and dedicated teacher."

"As an immigrant mom to a teen who aspires to sing and wants a career on Broadway, I was completely lost. I had no idea how to navigate that world. As a computer science graduate, I only know the technology world — the artistic world was a foreign country to me. I met Joy by chance, through my own research, and it truly was a blessing! She immediately took my daughter under her wing. Within just a few months, her vocal range improved tremendously, and she had the opportunity to be in several master classes with Broadway professionals through the Broadway Mentors Program — experiences that have grown her confidence as both a singer and an actor. Joy is wonderful, and my daughter loves her. She understands each child's ability and plays to their strengths. Every vocal class is not just a singing lesson — it is exploring who they are, nurturing them, and preparing them for the real world. I am deeply grateful for Joy. If you are a parent standing where I once stood, wanting an artistic guide for your child but unsure how to open the door — Joy is the answer!"

"My daughter who is 10 has started lessons with Joy and adores their
time together! I’ve also been truly impressed with Joy’s affirming, thoughtful, positive, and honest teaching methods! She has an incredible background and lots of fun stories about Broadway and her
performing career. It’s also been amazing to hear the impressive talent of some of her older students. If you are at all thinking of voice lessons, I’d recommend Joy extremely highly. She’s a light and
we look forward to the lesson each week!"
